Preview – Xavier Musketeers – 17

Autore: Fabio Cro
Data: 25 Ott, 2016

The team

The Musketeers will again be center around Trevor Bluiett, after the shocking buzzer beater by Bronson Koenig last year. The wing from Indianapolis will be the building block for Chris Mack, who will try to keep the general structure of the previous seasons. The team lost James Farr and Jalen Reynolds (20 points and 14 rebounds combined for them) but the recruiting season brought freshman Tarique Jones and transfer RaShid Gaston (from Norfolk State), whose play will be critical for the team’s success. Coach Mack will also count on freshman Quentin Goodin, Texas A&M transfer Malcolm Bernard and sophomore Edmund Sumner should be better in his second season.

Last season

They reached the tournament after a 26-8 season and the Big East championship but lost in the second round of the tournament, 69-66 against Wisconsin, on a buzzer beater by Koenig.

The coach: Chris Mack

He can not be considered a rising star anymore. He will be in his eighth season on the Musketeers’ bench, and since he took over as head coach the team won roughly 70% of the game and missed the tournament only once. He is one the best coaches in the Ncaa.

Key player: Trevon Bluiett

Ncaa basketball - Trevon bluiett - xavier musketeers

Bluiett is the leader and beating heart of a team that would literally go nowhere without him. On the court, his stretches as a small-ball power forward are lethal.

Prospects: Trevon Bluiett (Jr, SF), Edmond Sumner (So, PG)

Sumner is considered the best Nba prospect in the Big East, but he has to prove he is more than a player who lives on his exceptional physical abilities. Bluiett might find an Nba team willing to bet on him, but he is more likely to move to Europe.

Likely starting five

PG – Myles Davis – Sr
PG — Edmond Sumner – So
SF – Trevon Bluiett – Jr
PF – Quinton Goodin – Fr
C – RaShid Gaston – Sr
